Metta Round The World received a major boost with the Sangha Theravada Indonesia, an umbrella organisation of 105 Buddhist Viharas in Indonesia, joining as a participating organisation.

It brought with it an estimated 400,000 participants, who meditated between 10.30 am and 10.45 am Indonesian time on May 6, the official Vesak or Waisak (in local language) Day in Indonesia.

The Sangharaja of Indonesia, Ven Sri Pannyavaro Maha Thero said the time and day for all Buddhists in Indonesia to connect with one heart, one mind in metta meditation for world peace, harmony and stability was selected as it was the time when the Supermoon was at its peak.

The 400,000 collectively meditated in their respective small and big viharas spread out all over Indonesia from DKI Jakarta, Jawa Timur, Jawa Tengah, Jawa Barat, Yogyakarta, Bali, Sulawesi, Kalimantan Selatan, Kalimantan Timur, to Sumatera.

The Sangha Theravada Indonesia has 73 bhikkhus, 35 samaneras, 31 female eight-preceptor.

Metta Round The World initiative was promoted to the Sangha Theravada Indonesia when Sis Sumangala and Friends of Aloka from Malaysia recently visited Borobudor and also called on the Sangharajaya of Indonesia.
