We at Kuching Dhamma Vijaya Buddhist Centre, would like to share a short story about the miraculous results of a Metta Bhavana session.

In Decemer 2012, one of our committee members and a committed supporter, Dr. Yap Leong Ping went for a heart by-pass operation in Kuala Lumpur. It was a very major operation for him in view of his age. He is about 70 years of age. Although the operation was successful, his blood could not clot and doctors could not discharge him from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

After we were informed by his family members that Dr. Yap was weak and still in the Intensive Care Unit, we arranged for a Metta Bhavana session specially for him at Kuching Dhamma Vijaya Buddhist Centre. The session was conducted by Ven. Bhikkhuni Dhammika, our abbot, in the evening of 21 December 2012 and attended by about 40 of our members and friends. The guide on Metta Bhavana meditation by Bhante Mahinda was used and all present were immersed in an earnest prayer for the fast recovery of Dr. Yap.

The effects and results of so many minds concentrating on the well being of one person were miraculous for on the following day, his wife informed Ven. Bhikkhuni Dhammika that Dr. Yap had stopped bleeding and had been discharged from the ICU. It must have been such a relief for Dr. Yap himself and his family. It was good news for all our members too for we managed to do our bit for pray for the good health of one of our fellow brothers in the Dhamma. After some days, Dr. Yap was discharged from the hospital and his recuperation from the operation was also very fast. The most-heard-of comment and expression was “the power of Metta” !

This is a real life story of how the practice of Metta Bhavana has helped to bring good health to a person. We believe too that through the Metta Bhavana practice, we had invoked blessings from the Triple Gem which together with the good Kamma of the person himself brought about a near-miracle.
